There is no doubt that Asus has enjoyed great success with its EEE PC line up. It pioneered this market and ships millions of EEE products a year.
Some time ago I did a work shop with one of its competitors in this space and urged that company to focus on a single product, and focus on making that product just great and also in order to maintain focus.
My criticism of Asus & EEE is Asus's lack of focus. It took a great concept and unfortunately rapidly expanded the SKU range. In the process Asus lost focus and was later on, reportedly, overtaken in shipments by it Taiwanese rival Acer.
Asus President Jerry Shen has now announced a reorganisation of Asus, as well as a SKU reduction of the EEE line up to four models only. The company has some great ideas for the EEE (like tablet functionality, GPS, 3G etc), however it needs to be careful and not confuse the market with what is still a relatively new concept. It is therefore necessary for Asus to reduce its product range and instead make brave bets on fewer, but innovative products.
